The PSA Photo Travel Division offers two Digital sections for the 2019 PSA International:

  (1) People in Their Environment section
(2) Architecture and Landscapes section

All entries in the People in Their Environment Section must conform to the Photo Travel Definition given below and the People in Their Environment Definition given below.

All entries in the Architecture and Landscapes section must conform to the Photo Travel Definition given below and the Architecture and Landscapes Definition given below.

All valid acceptances in each section are eligible for Photo Travel Star Ratings subject to the requirements of the PSA Photo Travel Division and for listing in PSA Who's Who in Photography. The target acceptance rate will be between 28% and 34% in each section.

The exhibition is open to anyone; however, an entry may be rejected when the sponsoring organization or its agent, in its reasonable discretion, believes the entry does not conform to the exhibition rules and conditions.

An entrant’s images will not be presented to the judges consecutively. An entrant’s four images will be distributed throughout four rounds of judging for that section. Distribution of images shall be in the same round order as submitted by the entrant

Images will be judged using a 15 point scoring system (1-5 points/judge).

A person may submit a maximum of four (4) digital images in each digital section of this exhibition and all work must be the work of that same person. Verified multiple submittals by and/or for the same person in the same section will cause all images in all sections of this exhibition for that person to be disqualified. Any acceptances and any additional awards will be revoked with all entry fees retained.

A Photo Travel image expresses the characteristic features or culture of a land as they are found naturally. There are no geographic limitations. Images from events or activities arranged specifically for photography, or of subjects directed or hired for photography are not appropriate. Close up pictures of people or objects must include features that provide information about the environment.

Techniques that add, relocate, replace or remove any element of the original image, except by cropping, are not permitted. The only allowable adjustments are removal of dust or digital noise, restoration of the appearance of the original scene, and complete conversion to greyscale monochrome. Other derivations, including infrared, are not permitted. All images must appear natural.

Informative Note: Judges will not reward images which do not "look natural". Oversaturation of colours, undersaturation of colours, excessive use of HDR techniques do NOT look natural. Use of fisheye lenses which distort perspective do NOT look natural. Images must be either full colour or grey-scale monochrome. Partial desaturation or colour toning techniques do NOT look natural. A key phrase from the definition is "restoration of the appearance of the original scene". Images that do not conform to this definition may be disqualified or be given very low marks by the judges

We are looking for images of people at work, at rest, at play, at worship, in the street etc. Attention is drawn to the sentence in the Photo Travel definition above: Close up pictures of people or objects must include features that provide information about the environment. Close up portraits will receive low marks from the judges if there is no sense of place or environment.

This theme includes buildings, structures such as bridges, statues etc. Close up images of parts of buildings, structures etc which do not give a sense of the whole or the place will receive low marks. Landscape images should be distinctive giving a sense of place rather than small scale elements of part of the landscape.

The maker’s name and/or the image title must not be in the image area or in any other area visible to the judges of any digital files, slides or prints. This includes copyrights.

An image (or a nearly identical in-camera duplicate) previously accepted in any PSA International Photo Travel Division section is not eligible for entry in any Photo Travel Division Digital or Print section of the 2019 PSA International.

An image previously accepted in any PSA Recognized Exhibition may not be retitled and submitted in any PSA Recognized Exhibition or in the PSA International with the new title.

Informative Note: PSA Recognized Exhibitions are not "THE" PSA International Exhibition. Images accepted in PSA Recognized Exhibitions but not in a past Photo Travel section of the PSA International Exhibition may be submitted in the Photo Travel Division sections of the 2019 PSA International provided they meet the Photo Travel Definitions.

An image may be entered in only one section of the 2019 PSA International regardless of Division, Media, or Title.
All acceptances of that image will be revoked if multiple acceptances of the same image are discovered after judging.

Entries must originate as photographs (image-captures of object via light sensitivity) made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or acquired digitally. By virtue of submitting an entry, the entrant certifies the work as his/her own and permits the sponsors to reproduce all or part of the entered material free of charge for publication and/or display in media related to the exhibition. This will include the Exhibition (audio-visual program) of the accepted images to be shown at the 2019 PSA Conference, low resolution posting of accepted images on a web site, DVD of all 2019 Photo Travel Digital acceptances to the Photo Travel Exhibition Standards Director for exhibition records, and may include use in the PSA Journal. Images where entrants do not give this permission will be declined and entry fees forfeited.

The exhibition assumes no liability of any misuse of copyright. All final work must be on photographic film, or on electronic file, or on photographic or electronic print material, mounting excepted. Images may be altered, either digitally or otherwise, by the entrant subject to Divisional restrictions.

Informative Note: PSA Journal policy requires a model release signed by the subject for publication of any model images in the Journal. This policy also applies to close-ups of people not taken in a public place. It is the entrant's responsibility to get such a release at the time the image is captured. Do not submit releases unless requested.

An online Photo Travel Division PDF Catalog listing all acceptances in all four Photo Travel Sections of the 2019 PSA International Exhibition is included with your entry fee. You can download the catalog using a link on the Exhibition Web Site You can save the Catalog as an electronic file and/or print it out.   By entering this exhibition, you are explicitly consenting to the personal details you have supplied, including email addresses, being held, processed, and used by the exhibition organizers for purposes associated with this exhibition. You also explicitly consent to such information being sent to organizations that have accorded official recognition, patronage, or accreditation to this exhibition. You acknowledge and accept that entering this exhibition means the status and results of your entry may be made public. Email addresses and contact information will not be made public.

If at any time, it is determined in the reasonable discretion of the exhibition organizer or the judges before, during, or after the judging of an exhibition that an entrant has submitted entries where one or more images may fail to comply with these Conditions of Entry, including the stated definitions, the exhibition organizers reserve the right to delete the entry from the exhibition and void any or all acceptances or awards in connection with the exhibition. Fees may be forfeited or refunded in these circumstances. The entrant acknowledges that the decision of the exhibition organizers or the judges is final.

In order to ensure that images comply with the Conditions of Entry and definitions, the exhibition organizers may carry out reasonable measures to verify that:
    a) the images are the original work of the entrant and
    b) the images comply with the rules and definitions as set out in these Conditions of Entry.
These steps include, but are not limited to, questioning any entrant, requiring the submission of RAW files or other digital files representing the original capture of the submitted image(s), confronting the entrant with evidence that one or more submitted images fails to comply with the Conditions of Entry (also known as Entry Rules), and offering the entrant a reasonable opportunity to provide counter evidence to refute the exhibition organizer’s evidence by a set deadline. Such entries that are not cleared or are still questionable after the entrant has presented evidence may be considered in breach of these Conditions of Entry, and declined. Such entries may be referred to PSA for further investigation of possible ethics violations.

PSA retains the right to investigate in any way all complaints/suspicions of breaches of entry conditions, impose sanctions if deemed necessary, void the acceptances of any image found to violate the PSA rules, include the entrant’s name on the list of sanctions provided to Exhibitions, and share such investigations with FIAP. Entrants automatically agree to these terms by the act of entering the Exhibition and agree to cooperate with any investigation.

WARNING: An entry received from an exhibitor under sanction by PSA at the time of entry will not be included in the judging and the entry fees will be forfeited.

Each Image must have a unique title. Once an image has been accepted in any PSA Recognized Exhibition, regardless of section or Division, that same image, or a like “in camera” or a “reproduction” duplicate of that image may not be retitled if used in any other PSA Recognized Exhibition. Words such as "Untitled" and "No Title" are not acceptable as part or all of an image's title, nor are camera capture filenames.

Please limit titles to 35 characters including spaces and punctuation. The Entry Form software will clip any excess characters resulting in an incomplete title for inclusion in the Acceptance Records. This will cause problems when applying for Star Ratings.

Borders are allowed for Photo Travel images but are not recommended. If you do use a border, we recommend you limit it to a thin stroke that separates the image area from the black projection background. Wide borders and decorative borders that draw attention from the travel story are discouraged and could hurt your scores. Black borders will only make your images look smaller when projected using our black background.

The judging and display software operates in and assumes that the images are in sRGB colour space. Images will be displayed on a digital projector or a high definition television using the sRGB colour space. The equipment only displays colours which are visible in sRGB. If you use a larger colour space (such as Adobe 1998 or ProPhoto), the colours will be reduced to fit the sRGB colour space. This means your image may not display the way you intended; it may lose colour or detail or both. To ensure that we see what you want us to see, make a copy of your image, convert the colour space in the copy to sRGB, save it and send us the sRGB copy. We will not convert the image for you. Do not use CMYK color space. CMYK images will not be accepted or shown to the judges.

Maximum digital image width (horizontal) is 1400 pixels.  Maximum digital image height (vertical) is 1050 pixels.

Images will be displayed for judging on a Canon SX80 projector or Canon SX60 projector, both with a native resolution of 1400 pixels by 1050 pixels.

The entry software will reject images that are larger than the above limits in either dimension even if it is only 1 pixel off. The exhibition will not resize any images either up or down. The maximum horizontal and vertical dimensions cannot be swapped. If you rotate your image to make it fit the limits, the exhibition will not rotate it to the proper position for judging.

Use the maximum quality for each of your .jpg images that does not result in a file size larger than 2Mb.

You are not required to follow any naming convention for your .jpg files. The online entry form software will properly rename your files to meet the needs of our exhibition software.

Accepted Images, including award winners, will be on display at Selected images* and all award winners will also be shown at the 2019 PSA International Conference in Spokane, Washington between September 25, 2019 and September 28, 2019.

*Time constraints may prevent showing all Photo Travel Digital acceptances at the Conference. All award winners will be shown. Accepted images not included in the show will still get full credit towards Photo Travel Division Star Ratings and Who's Who listing and will be listed in the 2019 Photo Travel Division PDF On-Line catalog.
