PSA Youth

PSA seeks to encourage the younger generation to learn and share the enjoyment of photography and is committed to enriching the lives of school age children and youth around the world by introducing them to photography as a means of self-expression and personal growth.

The Society has experienced the positive role that photography can have in the lives of the world's youth and actively contributes by sponsoring youth-oriented photography exhibitions and scholarships for photography studies.

PSA Youth Showcase

The PSA Youth Showcase is a photographic competition hosted by PSA chapters, clubs, councils or federations to promote and provide photographic education among young people. The Youth Showcase is open to all students, ages 14 - 18, who are attending high school or its equivalent worldwide. The Showcase is an excellent opportunity for eligible students to share their work and receive recognition for their efforts.  Contest Opens: December 1 of each year. Entries are submitted only by the representative of the school sponsor. Deadline: April 5

All PSA Chapters, PSA member camera clubs, and PSA member councils and federations are encouraged to serve as sponsors for the Youth Showcase. There are no limits on the number of high schools that may be sponsored by a PSA organization, but two participating PSA groups cannot sponsor separate entries from the same high school.

New sponsors contact the Youth Showcase director with a request to become a sponsor: ✉ Youth Showcase Director

The sponsoring organization identifies an individual to serve as the sponsor representative who works with the teacher. The representative will be responsible for submitting the entries from a school. The sponsor representative must submit a Sponsor Representative Certification form listing the participating schools. (Download from "Forms" tab)

Fox Valley Camera Club and PSA Youth Showcase from the December 2008, PSA Journal describes a more in-depth history of the PSA Youth Photography Showcase and shares the experiences of the Fox Valley Camera Club.

In 1992, the first "Outstanding Photographs from the Young Photographers" exhibition were selected and shown at the PSA Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. The exhibit included 55 prints selected from 200 entries from 35 high schools in six states sponsored by eight PSA Chapters and PSA member clubs and councils. That was the beginning of the PSA Youth Showcase which continues to grow.
