Following her early military retirement, Darcy Quimby found a new passion to pursue. She started taking photos on a trip to Alaska in 2016, where her interest in nature photography started with a single bear. As her desire grew, so did her desire to improve her skills.
She joined her local camera club (Coachella Valley Desert Camera Club - CVDCC) in 2019 and joined PSA that same year. Darcy tried to go to a PSA Chapter Event and the International Festival in 2020 but COVID hit and the event was cancelled. It was at the 2021 PSA Festival in Rapid City, SD where she found an opportunity to delve deeper into photography beyond the camera.
Darcy became the CVDCC PSA Representative in 2022 and has been the Vice President of CVDCC since 2022. She received the Stuart Lynn Award for Photographic Excellence and Outstanding Contributions to CVDCC for 2022. For PSA International, Darcy is a Regional Reviewer for Exhibition Services and secretary for a PSA PID digital study group.
Her main interests are nature and wildlife, lightning, astrophotography and image reflections. Monochrome imaging has also captured her interest. She tries to bring out the unique in a situation and then photograph it. As Darcy is becoming more dependent on wheelchair mobility because of her Multiple Sclerosis (MS), she is still honing her photographic skills from a challenging perspective.
