Zemka Carra was born in Zagreb, Croatia and has been living many years in New York City. She has continued to pursue her career as an Occupational Therapist while studying, working and raising a family. She is known for her paintings but also for her photography. Her appreciation for natural beauty is represented in two ways: realistically and abstractly.
Zemka's art education was with professor Zoltan Gabor (The Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb), followed in New York at the Art Students League with Isaac Soyer and David Leffel, as well as with Edgar A. Whitney at the National Art League in Douglaston, NY.
Her association memberships include: Salmagundi Club (W.S.O.A.E.)-1979-1982; Composers, Authors and Artists of America (CAAA)-1982-1999; and the National Association of Women Artists (N.A.W.A.). Her images have won several awards at American and international exhibitions. She joined PSA in 2015.
Some of Zemka's work was done on commission and others are in private collections. Now in her retirement, she plans to devote more time to her love for photography and painting.
