Nyla's photographic interest began at 16 when she received a Kodak 124 Instamatic camera as a gift. She soon realized she needed a more sophisticated camera and bought a Pentax 35mm. This was the beginning of a never-ending love affair. Nyla studied photography at Cuesta College, Allan Hancock College, Brooks Institute, and the Light Photographic Workshops.

She is a lifelong resident of California and joined The Santa Maria Camera Club in 1989. She has held numerous offices in the club, including 4 two-year terms as President. Nyla belongs to three local camera clubs and a group called "How Photographers Think."

In 2009, Nyla Joined PSA and began entering International Exhibitions. In 2011 she began the "California Pacific International Exhibition" which just completed its 3rd year. She works closely with the Georgia Circuits, which is beginning its 25th year. Nyla also worked with the PSA Youth Showcase.

She enjoys interacting and sharing ideas with photographically minded people. Beyond entering PSA style exhibitions and being awarded numerous medals, including Best of Show awards, Nyla also exhibited in a number of group shows, including two ˜woman only" public showings and is preparing for her first major one-person show, opening in May, 2015 Titled: Abandoned America....
