Review by commentator J.D. McClung
Nature Story (N): As usual when the photograph shows a bird eating, it certainly fulfills the nature story. Score: 3

Technical Quality (T): Due to the amount of dead space in this photograph the result is that the photograph doesn’t show how well taken this shot was. Score: 3

Pictorial Quality (P): Dead space and cropping are the most bitter of enemies. This photograph would have been greatly enhance by cropping tighter around the subject and getting rid of the dead space. Score: 1

Exceptional (E): While this is a nice photograph with a terrific nature story, there are issues keeping it from rising to the level of “Exceptional” Score:1

Scores: N 3/ T 3 / P 1 / E 0 / Score = 7

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
Nice portrait with his lunch. Good head position with eye visible.

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Good color balance and Dof for the subject. Unfortunately, the bird isn't sharp and the feather detail is blurred.

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Lack of sharpness affects the impact of the bird. The impact may be stronger if the image was cropped.

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
Great shot! Well done.
You captured it at the right timing.
I can not tell this is the lucky shot or aimed-shot from the description but it is well captured.
However, if the title is "lunch", I wanted to see the what the bird is eating bigger in the frame. Then, the image would have become more powerful and dynamic.

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
I think your choice of camera setting was fine. it has adequate sharpness on the main subject and good blurredness of the background. There is nothing distract my eyes in the background and foreground, so my eyes go directly go to the main subject.
The lighting good - not so harsh and it does not prevent to capture the detail of the feather of the bird, which is also a good point.

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Looking at the image, your choice to leave wider space in left side was the right choice, however,
I am not comfortable to see more space in the bottom side than the top side. It looks unstable in my eye.

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
Nice image of bird with fish meal.

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Eye clear. Head and neck lack some detail, dark areas on wings and upper body need dodging to bring out more feather detail.

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Bird has good impact , nice background.

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
magnificent shot of bird looking over its shoulder during its lunch

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
the eye and head were tack sharp, the overall bird was very sharp too, but I would have preferred to see a little more detail in its wings and body; the exposure and color balance were very good too

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
image was optimally placed; subject was moving and overall a wonderful catch

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
Excellent capture of a tender moment in nature

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
well focused and lit. cropped appropriately. Birds are highlighted against a darker background

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Beautiful white and yellow against the blue ocean with a bit of green on the cliff. I might have lowered the brightness of the green a bit. But it doesn't detract from an excellent, colorful and poignant nature story. Worthy to hang on a wall.

NATURE SC ORE 3-Nature story strong

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
now that you have come back to this group I hope that you will stay longer this time. the shot of the osprey with the half eaten fish is definitely a good nature story.

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
with that light coming from behind where the wing feathers are so kinda dark the eye really pops out. do the shadows a bit which will enhance your shot.

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
perfect poise. no complaints.
