Al is a self-taught photographer using mostly a 35mm Canon A-1 for decades. During his long career as a board certified prosthetist, his related photography was seen in industry magazines, journals, and books. Now retired, he is focusing on the artistry of digital photography. With the purchase of his first Nikon DSLR camera in 2010, he is pursuing photo opportunities that include aviation and vintage glamour.
His digital photography has received awards, been published in magazines, calendars, and displayed in art galleries. His entry into the world of digital photography follows a half century career in prosthetics after attending Northwestern University. He was elected president of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists In 1988, and in 1998 received the first Professional Achievement Award given by the Amputee Coalition of America, an organization he helped start.
In 1999 he established Amputees In Hollywood LLC an organization that has helped place amputees in amputee roles in major motion pictures and on television. Before retirement, he served in the role of Regional Prosthetist Consultant, and on the Prosthetics Leadership Board of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Al is a member of the International Society for Aviation Photography, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Air Force Association, and a veteran of the United States Air Force (SAC).
