Review by commentator Rick C.
There is a nature story present that is clear and readily understood. The raised feet help in that regard. If you waited to catch that, good for you. The setting is natural, but close and does compete. While we see a natural behavior, I do not feel the interest value of what is depicted is strong enough for a 3 level and so I am rating this at the 2 level.

Primary focus looks good to me, though I feel there is room for some additional sharpening on the faces. The exposure as shown is reasonable, but I noted blank white areas on the breast of both Boobies and under magnification I can see that there is no hint of detail there. This suggests to me, rightly or wrongly, that these areas clipped in the capture and the highlights have been pulled back enough to keep the values below 250 but I fear the damage was already done. I think the saturation on the Boobies is fine, but feel that the ground and foliage are slightly over saturated. In the end it is the smooth areas on the Boobies chests that holds my rating on technical quality to the 2 level.

The environment is tight and cluttered leaving it visually disruptive. The core composition looks fine to me with plenty of room for the subjects to walk into. I note a defined darkening at the edges and this suggests a vignette was used. While popular for the typical pictorial image, vignettes, when detectable, create an unnatural appearance in the frame and as such run counter to the “all allowed adjustments must look natural” caveat for post processing nature images. The edge darkening and background issue hold my rating of the pictorial quality to a 2.

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
magnificent! a beautiful couple out for a stroll without the "kids" distracting them!

SCORE N (Nature) 3-nature story strong

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
very strong in every way - focus of eyes, colors, separation, etc. However, the further bird's body was not as sharp and in focus as it could have been.

SCORE T (Technical Quality) 2-Average exposure color balance and sharpness

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
very impactful; wonderful.

SCORE P (Pictorial Quality) 3-Excellent composition and impact

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
Not really a strong story going on here, but still a nice "couple" portrait.

SCORE N (Nature) 2-Nature story of average strength (portrait

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Technically appears sharp, however there appears to be lost feather detail on the bird in front.

SCORE T (Technical Quality) 2-Average exposure color balance and sharpness

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
The cluttered background provides some distraction, however this is often difficult to overcome in a natural habitat.

SCORE P (Pictorial Quality) 2-Average composition and impact

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
There is a story here but it could be stronger.

SCORE N (Nature) 2-Nature story of average strength (portrait

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Good strong well processed image. You've done well to avoid grasses and twigs overlapping the birds. I would have opened the aperture to blur out some of the background and make the birds more prominent.

SCORE T (Technical Quality) 3-Excellent exposure color balance and sharpness

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
The birds are a little central but the subject gives the image impact.

SCORE P (Pictorial Quality) 3-Excellent composition and impact

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
Good nature study showing typical booby behaviour.

SCORE N (Nature) 3-nature story strong

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Good colour and detail on birds' head and neck areas. Right hand bird's eye clear and sharp. Both birds' bodies lack feather detail in white and dark areas.

SCORE T (Technical Quality) 2-Average exposure color balance and sharpness

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Birds' behaviour shows impact. Background detracts a little from areas around birds' heads.

SCORE P (Pictorial Quality) 2-Average composition and impact

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
Your nature story would be stronger if the ducks were eating, nest building or bathing,

SCORE N (Nature) 2-Nature story of average strength (portrait

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
I really like the processing of the image, it is well exposed and sharp. However the colors look over saturated and unnatural. If this were a fine art group I would offer a higher score.

SCORE T (Technical Quality) 2-Average exposure color balance and sharpness

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
The colors in this photograph are exciting, reversing the image horizontally would offer a better compositional improvement.

SCORE P (Pictorial Quality) 3-Excellent composition and impact

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
gorgeous portrait. Love the elevated foot of the bird in front. Nature story not clear but as a portrait it's beautiful. YOu can almost feel the soft wing feathers.

SCORE N (Nature) 2-Nature story of average strength (portrait

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
Tack sharp image of the birds, nice color balance, background a bit distracting and would have preferred it not to be so bright or less in focus.

SCORE T (Technical Quality) 3-Excellent exposure color balance and sharpness

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
I think this is a well composed, fun image of the boobies. Although the background is a bit distracting, I think the sharp focus of the birds makes up for it.

SCORE P (Pictorial Quality) 3-Excellent composition and impact

NATURE REVIEW OF THE IMAGE
2 very beautiful birds walking along. I am missing a strong element of behaviour to this image

SCORE N (Nature) 2-Nature story of average strength (portrait

TECHNICAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
A nicely sharp and well exposed image of some striking birds. However, the background is quite messy and distracting as it is so close to the birds. Shooting with a wider aperture may have assisted by blurring the background

SCORE T (Technical Quality) 2-Average exposure color balance and sharpness

PICTORIAL REVIEW OF IMAGE
The birds are certainly striking, but are lost somewhat in the messy background. I do enjoy their position in the frame though with space to move into. I will say although I don't always agree that it is often pointed out that creatures are often "better" when facing left rather than right..

SCORE P (Pictorial Quality) 2-Average composition and impact
