I am a 63 year old semi-retired chemical engineer. I started photography when I was about 13 with a borrowed camera. I devoured books on photography and realised that an SLR was the camera go get, but it took a couple of years to save for a Zenit 3M. I worked a camera store on Saturdays and bought modest accessories - a Weston Master V, extension tubes and a 2x converter.
I was president of Leeds University Photographic Society in 1973. Afterwards family life gave me little time and my interest dwindled. I started again 5 years ago and have progressed through several simpler digital cameras to now have an extensive Olympus camera system. I have a good command of the technical side of photography, but my artistic and presentational skills need improvement and I hope the PSA can help with that.
I am a member of two local camera clubs, but have never submitted images to exhibitions or formal competitions. Again I hope the PSA can help me do that. I don't have any strong photographic preferences, but I tend towards monochrome, urban, aircraft, aerial, macro, abstracts and patterns, street and opportunistic photography. I did a couple of one days group courses with professionals last year, which were very helpful and interesting, and so I might do more.
