The Individual Creative Competition is free for individual PSA members as a member benefit.
|Closing dates for the three rounds:
May submit up to two “Altered Reality" images per round. An image previously receiving an Award or HM in a PID Individual Creative Competition may not be entered.
Creative Altered Reality images must demonstrate both creativity and altered reality. Creativity of an image is a dominant consideration in the competition, as exhibited by imaginative content and skill, originality of expression, unusual juxtapositions, and uniqueness of vision. The image should surprise the viewer. The image must exhibit alteration through digital post-processing of the original image. Such Altered Reality must be readily apparent to the viewer.
Images must originate as photographs (image capture of objects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant on photographic emulsion and digitally scanned; or directly acquired digitally. Images must be the entrant’s own work and may not incorporate elements produced by anyone else. The judges’ decision on whether the altered reality is “readily apparent” is final.
All participants will be asked to sign the Image release when uploading their images. The following is a copy of the release language. Please note that this form is not a requirement with respect to having your images used in PID Competitions; it is only required if you are willing to have such images displayed on the PSA's website. If you do not agree to the Image Release statement, your images cannot be uploaded through the website and should be sent, instead, to firstname.lastname@example.org indicating what the images are for and that you do not wish to have your images displayed on PSA's website.

I hereby give permission for the Photographic Society of America to display such images on the PSA's own website and Vimeo. (Vimeo is used to display Best of Year movie presentations.)
I retain copyright of the image(s) and these images may not be used by PSA for any purpose other than stated above without my additional explicit written permission. The PSA will not directly or indirectly post these images on any other websites such as social media sites without such written consent.”
Three groups: A, B, C are based on previous year’s performance. New participants will be automatically enrolled in the C group. However, if you are an experienced creative photographer you may request to be moved to group B when you enroll for the first time. Just click my name above for my email address. Group placement will be for the entire competition year.
Participants are divided into three ability groups, A, B, C. In each group, approximately 10% of the images receive an Award of Merit Ribbon, and approximately 10% receive an Honorable Mention Ribbon. In each group one image will receive a Best of Show Ribbon.
End of Year Awards (EOY): All awards from the current year’s competitions will be entered in an EOY Best of the Best judging competition. The top 10 images from each of the three groups will be chosen. From this group there will be a Gold, Silver, Bronze PID Medal award, or Best of the Best ribbon Awards. A Best of the Best will be chosen from the Gold PID Medal Awards.
