George has been interested in photography since a youth in the 1950's, but became more serious about it during his college years, and was president of the former Hartford County Camera Club in Hartford, Connecticut when he was only 23. Competition for him began almost immediately, and he received his first major award in 1967 when he was the winner of the Anscochrome Slide of the Year contest. He subsequently joined PSA in the early 1970's, and began entering large monochrome print exhibitions while living in Maine. His first star was awarded in 1979. He did not continue his membership in the mid-1980's, when he was developing and running his own commercial photography business.

Planning to retire in 2000, George rejoined PSA in 1999 and resumed competing in large monochrome print competitions. He completed the 5th star requirements in Large Monochrome Prints in early 2012, and was awarded his 5th star certificate by the Pictorial Print Division in August, 2012. He has also served as a contributor and Commentator in the Pictorial Print Division (PPD) American Portfolios activity, and received Commendation Service Awards from the PPD in 1986 and 2009, and a Meritorious Service Award in 2011. Additional awards within PSA have been a bronze star for his literary contributions to the PSA Journal, and twice he has been the 6-month winner in the PPD Division's monochrome Picture of the Month Contest. He earned his PPSA in 2012.

George and his wife Luella have been married since 1964, and now reside in Connecticut. They have long been members of both the Charter Oak Photographic Society and the Connecticut Association of Photographers.
