Fran MacDonald was recently named the new Star Ratings Director, taking over after Carol Bailey, FPSA, GMPSA, retired from the position after many years of service.
Fran's educational background is in engineering and regional/environmental planning, and his work history has spanned environmental consulting and various positions in sales for chemical process equipment. Currently, he's employed by Delta Air Lines as a Quality Auditor, and this position takes him to many locations where Delta flies.
Initially, photography was always associated with his travel. As a boy, he enjoyed and looked forward to his uncle's photographs and slide presentations from his trips to Europe. He followed in those footsteps and took many slides during trips to England showing places he had visited. After joining Greater Lynn Photographic Association and Massachusetts Camera Naturalists, he began to narrow his interests first to landscape photography and then to wild flower and bird photography.
In 2004, Fran joined a Wild Flower Slide Study Group that provided good commentary for improving his technique with macro photography. Monthly club competitions have challenged and improved his technique and understanding of the fundamentals required for creating images, and the club provides the opportunity to learn and photograph with others who share his interests in nature. Each summer, he volunteers for the Equipment Committee at the New England Camera Club Counsel conference in Amherst, Massachusett.
Fran looks forward to working with the various divisions in his new position.
